Monthly pain doesn't need to be carried in silence, and it doesn't need to be met with dread. This working is for anyone who holds pain in the womb — a call to release what no longer needs to be held, and to reclaim comfort as your own.
A note on this one: I once had a friend whose pain came every month like clockwork, and she was certain it was something worse — a disease the doctors could never quite confirm. I have come to believe fear plays its own part in pain. The moment our cycle starts, so many of us brace ourselves — oh no, not again — and that dread has a way of settling into the body right alongside the cramping, until it is hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. I am not saying this is true for every woman, and I am not saying pain is ever imagined — some of it is real illness that deserves real medical care, and I would never tell you to skip a doctor's visit if something feels wrong. But for the pain that dread makes heavier, here is a hoodoo working I have passed around for years. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. I share it as it was shared with me.
What You'll Need
- 1 red candle
- A small piece of brown paper bag
- A red pen
- A cup of warm tea made with rose hips & raspberry leaf
- A small amount of menstrual blood
The Ritual
Prepare — Brew your tea and let it cool enough to hold comfortably. Light your red candle. Sit quietly for a moment, breathe, and set your intention. You are not just doing a task — you are entering a sacred space.
Write the Petition — In your own hand, using your red pen on the brown paper, write the following:
"I release this pain to whence it came.
I expel it now.
No longer.
To be my womb, my soul — comfort me.
I call this out by the power of 3,
blessed by the Holy Trinity.
Count it off — 1, 2, 3.
Witnessed by Matthew, Mark, and Luke,
I claim this healing now."
Seal — Anoint the paper with your menstrual blood — touch each corner and the center. Your blood is your power. It is the very thing that has been causing suffering, and now you are reclaiming it as a seal of authority over your own body.
Burn — Hold the paper to the flame of the red candle and let it burn safely over a fireproof dish or sink. As it burns, read the three scripture passages below — aloud, repeatedly, cycling through all three — until the paper has fully burned and your tea is finished. Let your voice be steady and sure.
Close — Drink the last of your tea. Let the candle burn out safely or snuff it. Say: "It is done. So it is. Amen." Scatter the ash outside or flush it away.
The Three Witnesses
Read aloud repeatedly while the paper burns and you finish your tea.
And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.
And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, when she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately. And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
