No matter the form of separation, it can be painful to move on when a relationship has ended. This working offers a sense of calm and release that helps you put the past behind you and promotes true forgiveness — and it can open the door for a new love to find its way into your life.
A note on this one: this working is my own. It didn't come down to me from my grandmother — it comes from my own experience, built and tested through my own healing. Hoodoo, granny witch tradition, and Appalachian folklore each have their own ways of helping someone through heartbreak and loss, and I've learned from all of them. But this particular spell is mine, and I share it because I know from living it that it works.
What You'll Need
- 1 white candle
- 1 piece of rhodonite (or another moving-on stone of your choosing — see below)
- Matches or a lighter
The Spell
On the first night of a new moon, go into your bedroom. Place the candle on your nightstand and light it, then turn down the lights.
Sit on the side of your bed and study the flame for a few minutes.
Cast your thoughts back to a time before this relationship, when you were happy and content. Embrace that feeling, and let yourself think about how you want to feel in the future.
Extinguish the candle and lie back on the bed. Place your stone over your heart and speak this incantation three times:
"Heal my heart, heal my soul,
forever happy is my goal.
I count this out — 1, 2, 3,
by the power of the trinity —
I release this feeling,
so mote it be."
Leave the stone resting by your bed. Repeat this working every night, until the moon begins to wax.
Why Rhodonite Is Best for Moving On
Rhodonite is the stone I lean on for this working, and for good reason:
- Releases Resentment: the dark manganese veins running through rhodonite are said to target the anger, bitterness, and "why did this happen" thoughts that keep you chained to a former partner.
- Encourages True Forgiveness: it fosters the kind of closure that lets you forgive the situation — not for their sake, but to set yourself free.
- Rebuilds Boundaries: for anyone who lost their sense of self inside a relationship, rhodonite is said to help rebuild healthy personal boundaries from the ground up.
Other Complementary "Moving On" Stones
If you want to pair rhodonite with other stones to support your healing, these carry excellent forward-moving energy of their own:
- Malachite — known as the stone of transformation, called on to clear out deep emotional blockages and push through the lifestyle changes that come with starting over.
- Green Aventurine — the stone of growth and renewal, believed to shift your energy away from grief and open your heart back up to optimism, luck, and future possibility.
- Rose Quartz — best kept close in the raw, early days right after a breakup, offering gentle, comforting self-compassion when the pain still feels heavy.
- Chrysoprase — a stone of perseverance, said to help you settle into your best, most independent life once your heart has had the chance to mend.
"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." Isaiah 43:19
