What You Need
Rosemary
A small fresh sprig, or a pinch of dried. Old protective herb, easy to find, easier to trust.
Black Tourmaline or Obsidian
One small stone of either. Both carry a long folk reputation for absorbing and turning away negativity.
Bay Leaf
One whole leaf, kept intact through the bundling.
String or Thread
Enough to bind the bundle securely and carry it without coming loose.
How to Make It
- Hold each item in your hands, one at a time, and set your intention for protection
- Bundle the rosemary, stone, and bay leaf together
- Tie it securely with the string, keeping your protective intention in mind as you knot it
- Carry it with you, or place it by your front door or your bedside
The Protection Chant
Recite this throughout the day whenever you need grounding, or whenever you feel negative energy pressing in close.
Guide Me, Guard Me, Ground Me
Spirits guard me, herbs around,
evil passes, I stay sound.
In your love I stay ground.
Guide me, guard me, ground me.
Scripture Beneath the Craft
Appalachian folk magic was never separate from the church pew — it grew up alongside it, in the same hollers, in the same families who read their Bible by lamplight and worked their roots by moonlight. A protection charm and a protection promise from scripture can sit side by side without contradiction.
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10
When to Use It
- First thing in the morning, while holding your charm
- Before leaving the house
- During stressful moments
- When dealing with difficult people
- Before bed, for peaceful sleep
Extra Tips
- Avoid major confrontations or power struggles while the charm is doing its work
- Stay hydrated and take breaks when emotions run high
- Trust your intuition about people and situations
stand guard where you need it most.
Not by strength of stone or leaf alone —
but by the hand that holds them, and the hand that's Home.
