With wands, you can have a favorite, you can have none at all, or you can have a few, each one used for something different. Mine found me more than I found them — an old iron spike a friend turned up in a field, already drilled clean through by somebody, tossed aside before he brought it home to me. An old twig that struck me the moment I saw it as somebody's old wizard's wand. And something metal, maybe ivory, pulled out of a box of junk at a thrift store, still hard for me to properly describe. Grandma never carried one, she was more of a hand-waver, and not everybody needs a wand at all. But they say a limb found in the woods is an offering — the tree lives on with you when you carry it home. When one finds you, you keep it. Wands get put to work in all kinds of spells, but today I want to talk about one specific use: cleansing your chakras, or someone else's.
What You'll Need
- Your wand — found, gifted, or bought, any of them will do
- A negativity bowl — holy water or spring water with a bit of salt stirred in
- A quiet space you won't be interrupted in
- Someone else present, if you're cleansing their chakras instead of your own
The Seven Chakras
Chakras are the seven main energy centers in the subtle body, spanning from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. They act as propelling wheels that distribute life force, with each point corresponding to specific physical organs, nerve plexuses, and psychological traits. When everything is aligned, your chakras move smoothly. Sometimes, though, they get sluggish, or stuck altogether, and that's when they need to be unstuck.
The Ritual
Alongside a good grounding, which is its own paper for another day, this is a good ritual for using a wand to extend your powers. Believe it or not, when a chakra gets stuck, you lose faith and power right along with it. So grab your wand.
Work each chakra, one at a time. Hold your wand over the area and use it like a little shovel, pulling the unwanted energy away from that spot. Visualize it in your head as you go, picture yourself scooping or pulling that energy away.
Take what you've scooped and move it into your negativity bowl, like you're sweeping it into a dust pan. Imagine you're releasing that negative power and moving it away from where it was, freeing up the area as you go. Repeat the words below while you do your digging:
"For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints."
Dispose of the water properly. Watering your plants with it isn't disposal, that just releases it right back into your own space. Flush it, let it go down the drain and out of your life.
Repeat this on a daily basis until you feel right as rain again, and everything is moving in the right direction.
Why It Works
Your chakras are wheels, and wheels are meant to turn. When one gets stuck, the life force that's supposed to move through that area stalls out with it, and that's where the loss of faith and power comes from. The wand acts as an extension of your own power, giving you something to physically direct that pulling-away motion with instead of just willing it to happen.
The negativity bowl gives the stuck energy somewhere to go once it's been drawn out, rather than leaving it loose in the room around you. Disposing of that water by flushing it, rather than returning it to the earth around your own home, makes sure the work is actually finished and the energy has left your space for good.
Important Notes
- Not everyone carries a wand, and you don't need one for most of your work. But if one has found you, this is one of the simplest everyday uses to put it to.
- Grounding is its own practice and deserves its own paper, so we'll cover that separately down the road.
- This works just as well done for someone else as it does for yourself, just move through the same chakra points on them.
