How It Works
Every square in the grid belongs to one continuous cord of consecutive numbers — 1, 2, 3, and onward to 81 — where each step lands in the square directly beside the last, never diagonally. The gold-lit squares are the knots already tied for you. Click any open square, then choose a number from the pad that appears, and watch the ladder reveal itself. Full instructions live inside the game — look for the "How to Play" button.
The Goal
Fill every empty square with a number from 1 to 81 so the whole grid forms one unbroken chain: each number sits directly beside the number before it and the number after it — up, down, left, or right. No diagonal moves.
How to Play
- Click any empty square to select it.
- A number pad appears below the grid — tap the number you want to place.
- Click a filled square again to change or clear it.
- The gold squares are your given clues and cannot be changed.
Difficulty
- Easy — many clues are already placed; mostly connecting the dots.
- Medium — a moderate scattering of clues.
- Hard — only a handful of anchors; the rest is deduction.
Buttons
- Check — highlights every filled square in green (correct) or red (incorrect) without revealing the answer.
- Clear — wipes all of your entries and keeps the given clues.
- New Puzzle — ties a brand-new ladder from scratch at the current difficulty. No two boards are ever the same.
Tip: work outward from 1 and from 81 at the same time — the middle of the path is usually easiest to pin down last.
There is no reading here, no message pulled from the deck — just the cord, the count, and the small satisfaction of a ladder finished knot by knot. Sometimes the working needs that kind of quiet, too.
Some of it comes from simply counting your steps.
