Tarot Freecell

A Solitaire Journey Through the Arcana

Not every hour in the grimoire calls for candlelight and intention. Sometimes the cards just want to be played with — shuffled, sorted, set free. Tarot Freecell is a solitaire game built on the full 78-card deck: clear each suit up to the King, and walk the Fool's whole journey home through the Major Arcana.

How It Works

Sort all four minor suits — Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles — up through the court cards to the King. Meanwhile, the twenty-two Major Arcana build their own foundation, from the Fool to the World, in order. In the tableau, the Majors are wild: they'll rest on any card, and any card will rest on them. Four free cells give you room to think. Full instructions live inside the game itself — look for the "How to Play" button.

The Goal

Clear the whole deck onto the foundations: each suit foundation builds Ace → King, and the Major Arcana foundation builds Fool (0) → World (XXI), in order.

How to Move a Card

  • Click a card to select it (only the top card of a tableau column can be picked up).
  • Click a free cell, foundation, or tableau column to move the selected card there.
  • Click the selected card again to deselect it.

Free Cells

Each of the 4 free cells holds one card temporarily — a place to set a card aside while you work out your next move.

Building in the Tableau

  • A card can only be placed on a card exactly one rank higher — so a column builds downward as you add cards: K, Q, J, 10...
  • Suits must alternate pairs: Wands ↔ Pentacles, and Cups ↔ Swords.
  • Major Arcana cards are wild — they can be placed on any card, and any card can be placed on them, regardless of rank or suit.
  • An empty column will accept any card.

Buttons

  • Undo — reverse your last move.
  • Restart — reset the board back to this game's original deal.
  • New Game — shuffle and deal a fresh board.

Tip: hover any card in a stack to see it clearly before you decide your move.

There's no reading here, no working, no message from the cards — just the shuffle, the sort, and the quiet satisfaction of a board cleared. Sometimes that's its own kind of magic.
