Sage Clearing Spray

Sage clearing did not start as a kitchen recipe you found scrolling late at night. It came down through American Indian tradition, tribe by tribe, and every tribe knew it. It was left to a well-trained individual — a healer, an elder, someone who had actually sat with it and learned it, not someone who watched a fifteen-second video and lit a bundle over the sink. Any shaman worth the name will tell you the same thing I'm telling you: this was never meant to be casual.

Here's the part so many baby witches skip when they learn this off the internet instead of from a tradition: sage does not repel. It binds. You are not chasing something out into nothing — you are gathering it up and holding it, the way a net holds a fish. If your intention is unfocused, or your heart isn't right when you do it, you can bind that heaviness right back to yourself instead of releasing it. Done wrong, with the wrong intention, this can actually attract the very energy you were trying to be rid of.

Scripture warns about this, and it warns about it twice — which in the Bible generally means pay attention:

That's the exact danger of clearing without closing. You open the door, you sweep the house — and if you never fill it back up with something, if you never seal it with real intention and real protection, you haven't cleansed anything. You've just left it standing empty for whatever wants to move back in, and it usually doesn't come back alone.

I'm not telling you this to scare you away from the work. I'm telling you because free will means you get to choose, and I'd rather you choose with your eyes open than your eyes shut. If you're going to do this, do it slow. Set your protection before you clear, not after. Fill the space back up on purpose — with prayer, with blessing, with something — instead of leaving it swept and empty. That's the whole difference between a working done right and one that comes back to bite you.
